RoFreeSBIE 1.2 USER_GUIDE

 

Introduction.


Thanks for choosing RoFreeSBIE. This quick guide contains an introduction
to RoFreeSBIE and detailed info about the installation process.

RoFreeSBIE is a Live CD or Live DVD based on FreeBSD.

A Live CD/DVD is an operating system on CD/DVD that can be booted without
using the Hard Drive. When you finished the session, after ejecting the CD/DVD.
and rebooting the computer, the system returns to its previous state.

FreeBSD is an advanced UNIX-like free operating system. It is derived from BSD,
the version of UNIX developed at the Berkeley University of California.

 

Preparations before Starting.


1 . Systems requirements.

To run RofreeSBIE in your computer, you need the next requirements:

  • A copy of RoFreeSBIE on DVD or CD.
  • A computer with an AMD or Pentium processor (minimum 300Mhz).
  • 256 of memory RAM. CD or DVD drive.


2. How to get a RofreeSBIE copy.


Download the RofreeSBIE ISO from the website and burn it yourself.
Burning an ISO image is different from any other CD.
An ISO file is a binary image copied bit to bit on CD ROM.

3. How to burn an ISO image on DVD or CD.


- Using K3B on BSD or Linux.

  • Open K3B program and click Tools> Burn ISO image.
  • Search with Browse where you downloaded the RoFreeSBIE ISO image.
  • Click Write to burn it.

- Using Nero Burning Room.

  • Open Nero and click File > Burn Image.
  • Search with Browse the RoFreeSBIE ISO image

  • Click Write to burn it.


4. BIOS setup to boot from CD ROM


  • Press the key DEL during the first boot of the computer to enter the setup menu.
  • Search for the boot menu.
  • Go to Exit menu and choose the option "Save & Exit setup".


Note:
Some motherboards use F2 instead DEL to enter the setup menu.
Not every computer use the same BIOS
but the main menus are common to all of them.


5. Shared memory on onboard videocard


If you have onboard video card and only 256MB of RAM,
try to set the shared memory for graphics

to its minimum (32MB or 16MB) in the BIOS.
Your computer will increase its performance.


CAUTION:
Be careful when changing anything else in BIOS.
A bad configuration may cause severe damage to the system.
Remember than more information about BIOS
can be found in your motherboard guide.
