Using RoFreeSBIE on Live CD/DVD mode
To use
RoFreeSBIE, no installation is required on the Hard disk
as all the programs run directly from
DVD or
CD.
Using RoFreeSBIE Live CD/DVD with KDE or WINDOWMAKER desktop.
- Boot RoFreeSBIE, as default, pressing ENTER.
- Choose your Keyboard Language, select and press ENTER.
- Login : Type root when the blue message appears. Press ENTER.
- Configuration menu, When you finish, select QUIT, press ENTER.
- Start menu, Select KDE or WINDOWMAKER desktop and press ENTER.
Installation from Start menu.
Follow the
Live CD/DVD mode instructions to
Start menu.
Select
"RofreeSBIE install on a primary partition".
Installation from KDE desktop on Live mode.
Start
RofreeSBIE on
KDE desktop.
KDE MENU > RoFreeSBIE Tools > Installation Tools >
RoFreeSBIE installer.
Note:
The menu option changes if you run from Live DVD/CD or from HDD,
offering the best performance in each case.
How to INSTALL RoFreeSBIE 1.2 on HHD
HDD INSTALLATION
RofreeSBIE have tried to not modify almost anything in
/etc/rc.d or
/etc
directories to obtain, after an install, a pure
FreeBSD system.
Pre-installation
RoFreeSBIE must be installed onto a
primary partition so an available
primary partition is needed. The Hard Disk space minimum
required is 10Gb.
For a full installation.
20Gb is the option
recommended
(it gives you more free storage space, for example, when burning DVDs).
Swap partition
You must create as well a
swap partition, with a recommended size of 1024Mb (1Gb).
To do it automatically used the
Standard Installation on Hard Disk information.
Backup Your Data
If the computer you are going to use to install RoFreeSBIE
contains valuable data, make sure you
Backup your files.
Remember that after formatting the Hard Disk,
it is not easy to recover the lost files.
Standard Installation on Hard Disk
You can install RoFreeSBIE using your entire disk or an available partition.
Use the arrow keys to
select and then press
ENTER .
In the following pictures and menus, FreeBSD must be interpreted as RoFreeSBIE.
Standard Installation on Hard Disk.
Welcome to install, Select >
Install FreeBSD.
Begin Installation, Select >
Install FreeBSD.
Select Disk, Select a disk on which to install FreeBSD.
How much DISK ?, Select > Use
Entire DISK or
Use a part of Disk.
Select Primary Partition , Select a partition > OK.
Are you absolutely sure?, Select > OK. This is your last chance to cancel.
Information, Select > OK.
Create Sub partitions, Select > Accept and create.
The swap partition is created here as well.
Note:
FreeBSD makes a swap space twice as memory found in yours system.
Here it is recommended to make a 1024M swap space.
Realy Omit ?, Select >
Omit Subpartition(s).
Install OS, Select >
Begin installation files.
Executing Commands (copy files to selected partition).
Install Bootblock(s) if you don't have a bootmanager, Select >
Accept and install Bootblocks.
If you have one and you know how to configure it, Select >
Skip this Step.
Note:
FreeBSD bootmanager can't boot Linux from extended partitions.
Don't install Bootblocks if you have Linux on an extended partition
on the same drive because you won't be able to boot it.
To boot Linux from extended partitions and FreeBSD from the same drive
use another bootmanager like: lilo, grub , gag or extipl.
Extipl can be found on this CD/DVD.
FreeBSD is Installed!, Select >
Reboot.
Reboot, Select,
Reboot.
Note:
It will take some time so have a break or check you e mail
(in live mode).
If you wish to install
RoFreeSBIE into more than one disk,
you can repeat the slice or partition process using
Fdisk.
